Enamored Risks Postmortem

Enamored Risks was my / Crystal Game Works’ NaNoRenO 2020 entry. At the time of writing this (or at least, starting), we released it a couple days ago and are currently working on the Steam build.

A few stats on the game:

  • It’s a little over 52,000 words
  • It has 3 routes- 2 male (Finn & Paxton) and 1 female (Zaina)
  • 10 artists submitted promo art
  • Started accepting team member applications in mid February
  • Over 100 people applied for various positions
  • We required Discord for communication
  • Currently has almost 1,000 downloads on day 3 of Itchio

So, where to begin? I suppose the beginning…

I Saw Him Today – Ludum Dare #42 Compo Entry

Sometimes you come face to face with ghosts from your past.

Another Ludum Dare finished, and in record time. This event I present to you I Saw Him Today, a short, emotional, and experimental visual novel made in Ren’Py. It’s a heavy story that doesn’t easily become resolved, but I hope this realistic setting helps open people’s eyes to how many different kind of people are out there.

Erita has had enough of her life on her island and set sails one night to finally leave it all behind- only, when she wakes up, she finds she has left her entire world behind. Awoken by a mermaid, Erita finds herself in the underwater city of Ogygia, her new home. Help her find her place in this new world!

This was a long, trying Ludum Dare… between homework, classes, my IRL job, and family coming over, it was hard at times to concentrate along with the fact that my original scope was too large and had to keep downsizing it. As Vast as the Sea was by far my most ambitious Ludum Dare entry to date, I hope people will like the level of quality I was able to achieve in the time span and enjoy the story!

Now that my weekend break from That Which Binds Us โ€‹is over, I’m ready to hop back on the otome train and finish it!

Ludum Dare #41: Day 1 – Friday Night

As always, I’m entering Ludum Dare, but this time I’m going for a more ambitious adventure / creepy RPG called As Vast as the Sea

As Vast as the Seaย follows Erita, a young girl who goes adrift at sea only to wake up in an underwater world. Help befriend or begrudge merpeople as Erita tries to find a way home- or maybe find a new home.

This map thankfully isn’t permanent, it’s just a glance at Erita’s underwater world (which will soon be filled with much more than just sand and kelp). Well, I think a logo, cover art, MC sprite, and some screenshots are a good way to end my Friday night.

Now to go collapse on my bed.

Feathers: Ludum Dare #40 Entry

Alright, alright, hear me out.
“But Miko, your last post said you dropped out of Ludum Dare due to IRL reasons!” Yes, yes it did. Buuuuuut I finished one of my finals today, came home, and strapped down for about 5 hours and cranked out an entry after I thought “I’ve never missed a Ludum Dare before, and I’ll be damned if I do now!”. So, I made something not extremely labor intensive, which was a great break. I said before that this Ludum Dare was going to be for a non-story driven game, just something that’s cute, since I’ve done a lot of story-driven stuff the past few months, but yet here I am submitting a completely story-driven game.ย

So, what is this game about? It’s a small story about a young harpy who has too many feathers and too many friends. The harpy doesn’t really have a set gender- they can be female, male (making it a BL story), or even non-binary, etc. I didn’t really care, and in the event that I draw something for this in the future, I’ll just draw them androgynous.

This is my first real attempt at Twine, and I hope you guys like it!

Why No More Ludum Dare Updates?

Short answer: I had to withdraw from Ludum Dare #40.
โ€‹Long answer…

Long answer is this weekend is just too hectic for me to handle with Ludum Dare. Finals are this week (my most important being Monday, when LD is in the final hours), I had to use almost all of Sunday to prep for my moving out in a month, I’ve already stretched myself a bit thin over the past couple months on 3 other game jams since the last Ludum Dare, and some more excuses I can pile on. Although Ludum Dare is extremely important to me, this is also a crucial weekend in school for me and this weekend I just have to prioritize school over one game jam.
All the sprites I had finished for it (which weren’t a lot) will be uploaded to Lemma Soft as CC-BY sprites that are free to use for any commercial or personal project.
